What is Farmer Time?

Farmer Time is an education programme that connects farmers with schools across Ireland. Teachers and Farmers link classroom learning with farming and food production. Students chat with their matched farmer using video calls twice a month. Farmer Time is a free programme coordinated by Airfield Estate. It’s available to both primary and secondary schools.

Our story so far…

Farmer Time Ireland started in Sept ’21 after a successful trial of four schools and farmers. Since then, we’ve linked 2,500 urban and rural students with 90 farmers.

Together we’re shaping a greater understanding of farming and food in schools nationwide.

‘We’ve never been more divorced from farming, yet more interested in food.’ – Tom Martin, Farmer Time founder.

Bridging the Gap: Connecting Students to the Roots of Food

Two-thirds of Ireland live in urban areas. Many school children and students are disconnected from where food comes from. Farmer Time is an opportunity to bridge that gap – building a direct connection with those who grow our food and the land it comes from. Students also gain insight into what a career in agriculture might look like.

Farmer Time aims to inspire, engage and educate young people about the journey of food from farm to fork, and help them explore Ireland’s diverse agricultural industry.
